About the Symposium

Grid computing is a new form of computing that seeks to make it possible to easily pool together and share computing resources such as data and computing power around the world. Through grid computing, users will no longer be limited to using their own computers and their own local databases, but can now tap into the world-wide "Grid" in order to get the information and the computing power that they need.

The potentials of grid computing are many. In this symposium, we discuss the potential applications of Grid computing to the medical field, with the goal of building the foundation for an "Asian Medical Grid Highway" that would form a Grid allowing Asian countries such as Japan and the Philippines to share computing resources for medical applications.

Speakers will include experts from Japan and the Philippines, including members of a newly-formed research project on Medical Grid applications between Japan and the Philippines. There will also be a panel discussion and open forum wherein practitioners and researchers from both the IT and medical fields will be encouraged to share their inputs and participate in this project.

Attendance is open and free to the public.
